I styled my contents page in the form of an NME style as it is an effective and original way of constructing a double page spread, which indie teens aspire to be in the modern age, especially with the extra information about tour dates so the audience is informed about wanting to see the band.

I decided to style my contents page in the style of NME as it is a popular style and it is an original and effective style. It is more about the amount of images on the page than the text as people like to seen the artist in front of them to see how their look is.

Analysis of My Front Cover

On the front cover of my magazine i have decided to make it black and white, some may find this a dull colour that doesn't stand out but personally i think it shows how the artists included in the magazine represent the old classic style that started many years ago.

I placed my headline in the centre of the page as it should be the centre of attention, I have done this to grab my audience into reading.

I also placed three puffs around the cover, enticing the audience further as their is a wide variety of artists i have mentioned.

House Style Of My Music Magazine

The house style i shall be using for my magazine will be a simple black an white as it suits the Indie genre, i wanted to make it black and white as music is not about the fancy colours, colour gives everything a deeper meaning or mood, you have that in the lyrics of songs of the artists, you don't need to decorate it further.

Double Page Article

For my double page spread i shall use a close up shot of Jamie's head for one whole page, i shall get Jamie to stand at a white wall showing that the focus will be on Jamie's face, if i used a coloured background, it would distract the eye and set a mood which i do not want, i want Jamie's facial expression to intrigue the reader. He will not look straight at the camera, he shall be looking away. Like the example at the side.

Contents page Guideline

I have applied the outline to where i am going to place my images in the contents page of my magazine, i am aiming to make it the same style as NME to keep with my chosen genre of indie.

Template for my Double Page Spread

I am going to base my double page spread on this NME magazine, i'm going to add a colour that suits the mood of the band, i will use one side of the page for an image and another side for text.

Front Cover of Music Magazine

I have included a house style of black and white for my front cover as it suits the genre of music i am focusing on. I have made the C and the M bigger to make the masthead stand out. I've made Jamie turn his head away to link in with the main headline to make him seem secretive and shy to entice the audience into his character and personality.

Images for Magazine

I have took some images that i am thinking of using for the front cover of my magazine, the magazine i am making is an indie style and the jacket that the the person in the image is wearing suits the style, I may take the picture again but a little bit closer showing more of the persons face to focus on as the masthead of the magazine would cover the persons head.

Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys, originating from Sheffield, England, are a well known and respected indie band. Their first album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" took the UK by storm in 2005 and now in present day, they are a worldwide success.

Mock Up

In this custom music magazine with Jamie Graceffa, I used Jamie, holding a teddy bear, as my main image with him saying "i'm not as nice as you think!" enticing the reader into wanting to read the article. My front cover also as a house style of text, i think this text fits in to an Indie/RocknRoll type style. I also used as pugg showing the reader their are competition prizes to be won in the article.

I started off finding a house style for my work with font, Marcelle. I used this font because I thought it suited the indie style. I used a black and white font to show that the audience I'm appealing to are late teens to late 20's, I didn't use colour as its not colour that appeals to an audience of this age. 

The 1975

The 1975 are a new and upcoming indie band that are quickly rising to international fame, they bring a new and fresh sound to the modern indie era, they released their first album in September 2013 which gained a lot of good and bad reviews. These are appearing far more in the magazines i have been looking through recently so i may feature them in the one that i will create.

The Cure

The Cure are a prime example of a typical Indie band that would suit the style of the magazine i am wanting to produce, they are also a band who appear on the front of many indie magazines.

College Magazine Front Cover

How i made the Front cover:
1. I placed the picture i had taken on a blank background and turned the picture into a circular shape and moved it halfway off the page to create a crescent shape.
2. I then place a globe in the top left corner then wrote my masthead for the magazine "The Heenan World". I then curved the first word and bottom word so the title was shaped like a circle, just like the globe.
3. I then turned the background yellow.
4. I then used red colour font for my main headline as it was the same as my masthead.

Music Magazine Contents Page Analysis

The layout

is very ordered and neat, the page is structured under different headings. The contents page's colour is the house style, it uses all the colours from their logo, keeping the theme throughout the magazine. Their is also subscription information at the bottom of the page, advertising how you can save 33%.

Q is a very similar type of magazine but this magazine is very kind on the eye, its well presented, but isn't spotless, bringing in the Indie theme. The only picture on the contents page is of Oasis, which tells us the main focus in the magazine will be on them.

50 Cent & Susan Boyle Collaboration

I merged Susan Boyle's head onto the head of 50 Cent just to demonstrate skills i was capable of using Photoshop. I used the magic wand tool to rub out Susan's body just to leave her head, then i modelled her head around the shape of 50 Cent's. I used the Bevel and Emboss effect to make the picture seem more realistic.

Music Magazine Annotations

The MASTHEAD is basically just the name of the magazine/newspaper you are reading, it is usually in big letters.

The DATE LINE/ SPECIAL ISSUE just informs you of the the month and the year of the issue, its also usually at the top of a magazine.

The MAIN PICTURE is an insight to who the magazine is mostly about, which in this case is The cure's frontman, Robert Smith.

MAIN COVERLINE is usually an insight into what the interview will be about and it will try and intrigue the reader.
